Starting a Blog Again
I think the last time I blogged consistently was when I was a teenager. I think something cowed me away from expressing my thoughts in long form on the internet, probably encountering people who were smarter than me and mean about it (or at least who I interpreted as being mean about it.) As of late I've started commenting on HN and elsewhere again. I think it might be some newfound confidence from spending a lot more time reading in the last few months and subsequently feeling "knowledgeable" (regarding stuff about which I've read books.) Now I'm a book guy. People should listen to the stuff I say because I'm smart because I read books.
I also only recently began to grok the need to articulate something you learned in order to refine your own knowledge (or ignorance). I did this in school, but I think I was a nascent learner back then and always learning to pass classes rather than be deeply informed. I guess over time I've picked up enough ambient knowledge that I don't feel as overwhelmed when approaching a new subject, and I'm no longer afraid of the boogey man making fun of my ignorance.
Here are some things I plan to write about, whenever I get around to them:
- Some home automation stuff WRT detecting open doors/windows
- Managing mental illness
- Books I've read recently, or reading in general
- Getting jobs, taking time away from work
- Animals and pet ownership
